Family History

There are several versions of stories about the origin of our family, and non of them are really well documented. However, the following version, has been searched and documented by Al-Muhandis Jamil Zuraikat ( Abu Bisher).

Zuraikat Family came originally from Yemen in the year 1251 and lived in the province of Tabouk in an area called Ulla in the Arabian Peninsula; this region currently known as Saudi Arabia. From Ulla, our grandfathers went to Musa Valley in a small area called Al-Shoubak located currently in the south of Jordan near Petra and lived there for an extended period.

It's not known for how long our grandfathers have lived there and to which areas they travelled, but it's certain that we have lived in Wadi Musa and worked on the land and raised animals and lived a bedouin life.

Further, the reason that we are certain that our grandfather had lived in Wadi Musa is due to the fact that when our grandfathers left Wadi Musa to Karak and the land distribution began in Wadi Musa, we were told by some officials to go back and claim our portion from the land distribution program. We were entitled to get some land, as our grandfathers had lived there. However, and for unknown reasons, our grandfathers declined the offer and did not claim any.

Again, the following story is being told by Abu-Bisher and shared by Abdullah Ibn Saleem ( Abu Firas): The first grandfather of Zuraikat, is known as NAHD. He had a son named ZURIEK, who was the FIRST grandfather of our Zuraikat family that had three sons and one of them, Nafe, was to be the first carrying our family name Zuraikat. It was believed that Nafe travelled to Karak in the search of his relatives. In particular, it was said that he specifically went to Karak looking for his cousins (Milhem and Jubrayel) already living in Karak. It seems that Zuraikat came to Karak the year 1550.

The family tree shows only the branch of Ghanem, one of Nafe's sons.

It is to be emphasized, that it's a never ending process of collecting the rest of the names from the other branches. It should be noted that there are other Zuraikat muslim families living in the north of Jordan and in Syria on the northern border of the Jordanian city Irbid. In addition to that, there are some Zuraikat families present in Sudan, who are muslim and represent themselves as a major tribe.

However, up to this day our name is currently present in all continents of the world and I'm hoping to collect more information about our history as we go along.

I'm happy to receive any feedback to  correct or to update and I'm open for any suggestion you may have.
